Chocolate Lemon Zest Scones

Early this morning, I made these little treats for our family's breakfast.
Josh and I were up before our children, so we enjoyed them in a quiet living room with our cups of steaming coffee and a flickering candle.  Bliss.

Without further ado, here is the recipe:

Chocolate Lemon Zest Scones
Makes:  8 scones

1 1/2 cups flour
1/3 cup sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chocolate chips
1 1/4 cup heavy cream
zest from 1 lemon

Combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.  Make a well in center of mixture and add chocolate chips, three quarters cup cream and lemon zest.  Stir until crumbly and use your hands to knead dough into a ball.  Work the dough gently and do not over-mix.  Pat or roll dough into a half-inch-thick circle and cut into 8 wedges.  Space 1 inch apart on lightly greased baking sheet.  Brush with additional cream and sprinkle with sugar.  Bake at 450 degrees for 15 to 18 minutes or until golden brown.  Serve warm.

Enjoy today,
